Blockdev is a creation of Matt Block, an attorney in Anchorage, Alaska.* Matt does a mix of litigation and business law, and particularly enjoys working with new businesses and investors in new businesses. He has experience and education in intellectual property issues, including trademark and copyright, unfair competition, and trade secrets.

The information and opinions on this website are intended to help entrepreneurs and investors. They may be particularly useful to early-stage companies dealing with emerging sectors, such as new technology and new uses of existing technology. Blockdev does not exist just to help people make money. While that is certainly an important and worthy part of business, it need not be the only motivation: Blockdev is dedicated to the notion that business can, should, and mostly does exist to improve life.

This is a relatively new incarnation for Blockdev. It was originally created in 1999 to market Blockdev Internetworking, the name under which Matt did some technology consulting work. Over time it evolved to provide tools and resources to some of Matt's customers, and then evolved again to provide a community for technologists and clients. When Matt went to law school, Blockdev stopped evolving (or doing much else!) for several years - the only new additions were baby pictures of Matt's kids and the like.
